VH World: Emily Green & Beckie Littler

Say hello to Emily Green & Beckie Littler! These two are the friendly faces behind the much-loved gift store, Pinky's. If you haven't heard of Pinky's yet, get ready for a delightful surprise!

Nestled in the heart of Preston, Melbourne, Pinky's is a vibrant, kaleidoscopic treasure trove showcasing the crème de la crème of Australian makers and designers. Imagine the cutest, most colourful goodies imaginable: whimsical homewares, eye-catching jewellery, adorable kids' items, exquisite ceramics and one-of-a-kind giftwares. Whether you're on the hunt for a unique gift or just a little treat for yourself, Pinky's promises to be your new happy place and an absolute feast for the senses.

We had the absolute pleasure of catching up with Emily & Beckie to learn about the journey that led to the creation of Pinky's and to get a sneak peek into what exciting things the future holds for their colourful wonderland.

Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and how you first met?

We are a couple of creative, design-loving women from Reservoir and Thomastown. We are also both mums of school aged kiddies. We first met at playgroup when our daughters were a year old who, not long after, decided to take a leap into the unknown and start our dream shop together.

How did creating Pinky's come about & when did you know it was something you wanted to create together?

The initial conversation started by Beckie saying to Emily (without much thought really going into it) ‘We should start a shop!’ At the time Beckie was working her arse off as a stylist and struggling to balance family life with weird shoot times and all of the other stress that goes into being a stylist. At that time Emily was plugging away at her jewellery business but was getting itchy to do something else. Creating flexible and family-friendly work for ourselves as mothers of young children was top priority for us so we dove in head first and started hunting for a space that was close to home.

How would you describe your store in one sentence?

You know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when things are exciting and overwhelming, in a good way? That’s what it’s like to visit Pinky’s

What is it that you love about what you do?

There is nothing we love more than sitting down together and selecting amazing things for our customers (and ourselves…). It really brings us the MOST joy! We also love our staff, they’re seriously the best group of women, we’re very lucky to have them.

How do you go about curating which products are featured in-store?

We find lots of our products from the never ending creative resource Instagram! Our staff and friends will often send us stuff they think will work and very occasionally we get sent some gold on the emails.

If you could offer just one tip for defining your personal style, what would it be?

Don't be afraid to stand out! Trends are fine but you don’t have to like them all. Its also shopping in a way that feels ethical to you, ie NO fast fashion.

We love the way you styled your accessories with our new collection, how do you think your personal style influences the store & do you have a favourite Pinky's accessory?

We both love mixing casual with dressier items and playing around with texture and colour. Both of us love colour (obviously) and everything we stock in the shop (accessory wise) we wear ourselves.

Beckie: My current favourite accessory is the new Zofie necklace from Emily Green.
Emily: My current fave accessories are our Camille Paloma Walton Happy signet Rings and the new Baggu digital denim pieces.

Cassie's mural is obviously a feature in your store, how did that come about?

We have been fan girls of Cassie’s since way back. Emily got to know Cassie when they used to do design markets together.  When we were doing our shop fit out we didn’t have a massive budget for anything too design-y but a mural is a great way of having high impact without spending millions of $$ and we knew Cass would be able to create something right up our street. We also had such a great time painting it together!

Congrats on six years of Pinky's! What is on the horizon for Pinky's?

We are always looking forward and planning fun stuff for the shop. We will start on our annual charity calendar soon which is always exciting. We are also currently brainstorming some future collaborations and new products for our Pinky’s Merch.
